robinp
I have found that the names of some text styles has become impossibly small. Dragging the width of the side bar seems to increase the size a bit but then each time I reopen AP I have to adjust this again. Also, similar width related jumping around happens as here with image frames. Same bug? Untitled.mov
Staff MEB Posted September 25, 2018 Staff Share Posted September 25, 2018 Hi robinp, The bigger the style name, the smaller it will appears on the preview space available in the Text Styles panel. In your case since the styles are also being displayed as hierarchies (nested) there's even less space available for the preview. This is working as intended however I can see how it may become problematic when you have Show Hierarchical option enabled. If you disable it it should improve things a little. If you untick Show Samples it may also help. Not sure we can do much about it but I will pass it to the dev. I believe the tried and tested method is to have a horizontal scroll bar if a name is too long. You can then either choose to adjust the width of the panel or scroll to see the whole name. An alternative would be an ellipsis to indicate the name has been truncated. What we have right now doesn’t work because it just gets too small to read or even really to properly see the style. Either if the above options would actually work.
Staff MEB Posted September 25, 2018 Staff Share Posted September 25, 2018 You can already adjust the size of the panel (as you mentioned in the first post already) and disabling preview and/or hierarchies should also help. Personally I'm not a huge fan of horizontal scrollbars on panels (I believe we don't use them in any panel) but I've already logged this for the dev team to take a look and will get back to you as soon as there's some news. Thanks for your feedback. A Guide to Learning Affinity Software

Thanks for your feedback. I understand about horizontal scroll bars, but at least the ellipsis solution would at least ensure the text is legible, even if you can't see it all. Looking at it more, it would seem to me that the whole layout could be tightened up drastically. On the example I gave above, given the hierarchical layout, the width given to the style names is only about 1/3 of the whole panel width. Not sure what's going on to the right of it but there is loads of space unused. To the left, I think everything could be tightened up a LOT and the hierarchy would still be legible.
