Affinity Designer on iPad: Bleed & Spot Colors

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

First of all, i have purchased Photo and Designer a few hours ago for my private iPad. So far, i am impressed. I am working in a small printing house  using the Adobe CS for years now. Because both Affinity Photo and Designer have the tools for our daily work, i have decided to switch to the Affinity Apps on work too — waiting if Affinity Publisher will have all tools for your daily work too... :2_grimacing:

With the idea in my mind, that i can work even at home with no laptop — just with my iPad — on private projects or for the company i work for  i purchased both of your iPad Apps. But unfortunately, i am hanging on two things — or i am just blind to find it on the right place.

Working in our company with a Roland VersaWorks Print and Cut System, i have a lot of files needing a „cutcontour“. Usualy, you need to draw a closed path and colouring it (the stroke of the path) with a spot color in CMYK (100% Magenta). But i cannot find the specific item in the color studio on Designer to define a spot color. Working on the desktop version of Designer its an easy task! :$

Second one is the bleeding around the file — where do i define that and can i set a bleeding on a existing file?

Both of the items are advertised in your feature list of Designer for iPad, and if i want to export a printable PDF, there are options in the lower right for including the bleeding and spot colors, but i definitely did not find the options to enable it working on a test file.

Thanks for your help. :)

Currently you cannot set Bleed on the iPad Designer. It is a feature request but that doesn’t help. iPad Designer will respect any Bleed setting made in the desktop version file. If you can set it on a desktop then open on iPad the Bleed will be retained.

I'm not sure if it is the same for setting Spot colour but is seems in will honour any spot colour setting.

Hi,

Is it already possible to add bleed properties with the iPad version of Designer?

Because I’m working on a postcard design with Affinity Photo, and the company which prints the cards needs an PDF with 3mm bleed all around including visible crop marks.

This is not possible to do in Affinity Photo on iPad as far as I discovered, but could it be done with Designer for iPad? Otherwise, I will need to look further, perhaps you know other options then?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, this feature was added some time ago.

Hi, I've tried to set bleed on Designer iPad, I found the bleed option and set the value but I can't see anything even I clicked show bleed, may I know why and how to use it? Thanks.

Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @Myran. :)

What value did you choose? Do you see the pink line indicating the bleed limit?

Still a bug exists where you can’t set bleed on Artboards. Set it on a plain canvas and add artboard later. Then you can see/adjust it.

Thanks a lot for your helpful information, it's weird so didn't figure it out.
