harrpu Posted April 19, 2018 Posted April 19, 2018 Opening a Sony a7 iii uncompressed RAW file just gives a black screen. I can only find a list from 2016 of cameras you support. Is there an updated list, and when might this camera get on it? Thanks Quote
Staff MEB Posted April 19, 2018 Staff Posted April 19, 2018 Hi harrpu, This camera is not officially supported yet. Affinity Photo for iPad relies on iOS system level support - Apple (Core Image RAW) - to convert/process RAW's, so we depend on Apple to add support for the Sony a7 III camera. Here's the list of compatible cameras/RAW formats for Affinity Photo for iPad. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
harrpu Posted April 19, 2018 Author Posted April 19, 2018 Thanks, but if that is the case then I don't understand why I can open and edit these files in the iPad Photos app, but not in Affinity? Quote
Staff MEB Posted April 19, 2018 Staff Posted April 19, 2018 You’re probably seeing the low res jpg preview not the actual RAW file. Zoom in a little - does it start pixelating/losing quality immediately? Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
harrpu Posted April 19, 2018 Author Posted April 19, 2018 I have shot in uncompressed RAW only, there is no jpeg. Imported on a mac from memory card to iCloud then dragged into Photo app where it is fine. Fails to be viewable in affinity either from opening the raw file from iCloud, or pulling in from Photo app. Quote
Staff MEB Posted April 19, 2018 Staff Posted April 19, 2018 I'm not talking about an independent JPG file either (as if you shoot RAW+JPG). I'm talking about the low res preview embedded in the RAW file itself. That's what you are seeing in Apple Photos. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
harrpu Posted April 19, 2018 Author Posted April 19, 2018 OK. Well I'd say it isn't very low res, but maybe that's it. Thanks Quote
Staff MEB Posted April 19, 2018 Staff Posted April 19, 2018 In your case it should be 1616 × 1080. Compared to the full camera resolution it's low-res but i see your point. It's not exactly a thumbnail... Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
deeotee Posted April 21, 2018 Posted April 21, 2018 Hey everybody, yes, MEB, you‘re exactly right. All I did was using my EXIF-Extension (Metapho) and it shows a resolution of 1616x1080 and it is really low res. However, it already shows the correct filesize and RAW-format. So, all we can do is wait for Apple to ship an update. Quote
