igaryhe
Recently I started drawing in Affinity Photo. One thing that confused me is that I couldn't figure out how to draw stroke like this: The line get thinner at the end of the stroke. This is a screenshot from Clip Studio Paint. I tried configuring accumulation jitter and flow jitter but still can't reach this effect. Does anybody know how to config the brush? Or do Affinity Photo support this feature? firstdefence
What are you drawing with Mouse, stylus on a tablet? What Operating System are you using? That shape is normally controlled by Pressure, so the harder you press the stylus the thicker the line and obviously the less pressure the thinner the line. You can also shape the brush (see screenshot) AffinityAppMan 1 Quote iMac 27" 2019 Somona 14.3.1, iMac 27" Affinity Designer, Photo & Publisher V1 & V2, Adobe, Inkscape, Vectorstyler, Blender, C4D, Sketchup + more... firstdefence
You could try by setting the size jitter to velocity, so the line thickness would be dictated by how fast you moved the mouse. firstdefence
If you look on eBay you can pick up a Wacom Bamboo for a fair price. Hi firstdefence, sorry for the poor description. I have an Intuos Drawing tablet. The picture I posted above is a line drawing from down to the top. As you see, while I moving my pen, the thickness get thinner as last. Here are some strokes I drew in Affinity Photo and my configuration of the brush. These strokes are also drew from down to the top. To conclude, the point is, in Clip Studio Paint, the line get thinner and lighter at the end of the stroke, while in Affinity Photo I couldn't find a way to implement this feature. firstdefence
Well I've had a play and I think I've come close ish Try the brush settings below. I have to say it feels counter-intuitive to draw a line thick to thin with an upwards stroke. I use a Wacom clone the Aiptek MTU-001 Also known as the Aiptek Media Tablet Ultimate. This is the effect I get at the moment, it's a bit odd but the harder you press the thinner the line starts. Hi firstdefence, I mean, like when you are drawing on a paper, moving your pen quickly, and the line get sharper and thinner at the end of the stroke. The picture I posted at the very beginning, is when you hold down the pen at the begin, and move quickly through the tablet. Normally in Clip Studio Paint, a line is thin at the beginning, thicker in the middle, and sharpe at the end. I'm lack of devices at the moment, will post some pictures later to show you what I mean. The first picture is a screenshot from Clip Studio Paint, and the second is from Affinity Photo. I just simply slide my pen from left to right on the tablet, as you see, the lines get sharper at the end in the first picture. However, in Affinity Photo lines didn't end like that. firstdefence
I don't think the brush engine in Photo is up to scratch, If you download Krita the Brush engine in that is very good, but in Photo it seems a bit basic. There may be brushes already created that will have the right Dynamics so it's either fiddling with the built in brushes, importing .abr brushes and tweaking those or just create custom brushes. I find the pressure control in photo to be an all or nothing affair so you end up with an abrupt reduction in a line where you actually wanted a smooth fade off. It ends up looking like a tadpole. I've never gotten a satisfactory line in photo and use Krita or Corel Painter for pretty much all of my drawing art.
