st87 Posted January 26, 2018 Share Posted January 26, 2018 Okay this is ridiculous. Maybe I'm using it wrong. So in my document, I have a layer from a scan. I'm trying to crop off the edges, so with the layer selected, I use the marquee tool to select an area. I press (fn + backspace) on my macbook (which is equivalent to the del key), and the whole layer gets deleted!! What the hell?? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Staff MEB Posted January 26, 2018 Staff Share Posted January 26, 2018 Hi st87, Right-click the layer in the Layers panel and select Rasterise then proceed with the selection and deletion of unwanted parts. This is happening because you are probably working with an image layer type (look at the label between parenthesis after the layer's name in the Layers panel). Image layers are a special layer type that retains all the original image data - you can think of them as embedded images -. They are created when you use the Place Image Tool, the File ▸ Place command or when you simply drag them from the Finder (Mac) or File Explorer (Windows) to the canvas of an opened document. They can be transformed globally (rotated, skewed etc) without losing quality but they cannot be edited/manipulated at a pixel level. st87 Posted January 26, 2018 Author Share Posted January 26, 2018 Thank you SO MUCH for your quick response. Man, I was pulling out my hair. I confirm that it as an image layer, and it changed to a pixel layer after rasterizing. It then allowed me to delete selections as I would normally expect.
