Hagarack Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Hi guys, hope you have some insight on this one. So I'm trying to make a double helix illustration that curves around the bottom of the beaker in the image attanched. I've managed to troubleshoot a few of the problems I was having with it and I'm learning a lot! Unfortunately, though, the brush has a very light but visible grey background that I just can't seem to get rid of. I made the brush by creating an artboard with a black background (it's hex 000000, I checked) while the shape itself has a white stroke. Then I exported it as a .png and then created a "new textured intensity brush" I was just following a youtube tutorial so maybe there's a better way to do that for the effect I'm trying to achieve anyway. If anyone has any suggestions it'd be most appreciated. Quote
v_kyr Posted January 10, 2018 Posted January 10, 2018 Use a transparent background for your brush PNG and save it with transparency. Quote ☛ Affinity Designer 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Photo 1.10.8 ◆ Affinity Publisher 1.10.8 ◆ OSX El Capitan ☛ Affinity V2.3 apps ◆ MacOS Sonoma 14.2 ◆ iPad OS 17.2
Hagarack Posted January 11, 2018 Author Posted January 11, 2018 That's the thing. if I do that the brush stroke is white and the background is solid black. Quote

Well try to make a new intensity brush on the pixel persona out of this transparent PNG file here and see if it behaves correctly for your backgrounds ... Note the above is for a pixel based brush not a vector brush. v_kyr Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 For vector brushes, those have to be created instead on the AD vector draw persona. The following video shows the way how to go here, did you followed that one and which of the three vector brush types did you used? heisreason Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 With the help of another we figured out that the issue with the light grey background on the stroke was caused by the original source image being created using the CMYK color profile instead of RGB. I used the RGB/16 color profile and exported the brush image as a png and it work perfectly. Quote
tinpixel Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Just had this same problem on our Facebook group. It was a CMYK source file and when exported the black was 5% grey or RGB 5,5,5 - so the background wasn't fully transparent. Hope that helps. CRWillow 1 Quote

v_kyr Posted January 14, 2018 Posted January 14, 2018 Ah Ok I see you had assigned a wrong color profile for printing to the file instead of a screen profile, well then colors don't have the same gamut values here and are shifted. CRWillow Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 I have the same problem. The first brush I made is just fine - clear back ground - crisp image. Since then each brush I try to make has a grey background. I'm working in the 1.7.3 designer on windows10, there is no stroke around the black rectangle box or the white image. I work in CMYK for home printing, black is at 100% K and white C0 M0 Y0 K0. I even tried duplicating the original brush to see if it had something the others didn't but now the duplicate has a grey background. I tried the above steps and it didn't fix it. My steps: No stroke Black rectangle, white vector made image on top. Select both export as PNG\ Selection with background click export, name and save. Go to drop down in brushes choose New texture intensity brush and text. I'm obviously doing something wrong. Any ideas. Please. C Quote

C I was finally able to make it work with a the document in Grey/8 Format and Black and White Color Profile. Black background was 100% Black Quote
