I often use geometry layer to mask (clip) other layers. Unfortunately there seems to be no possibility to mask/clip everything inside the geometry. It would be great to be able to invert geometry layers without rasterizing them.

Of course. But also not inverting :)
You meant creating a huge rectangle (larger then the image itself) and clipping it with another -smaller- object. That clipped rectangle can be used as a "negative" mask.

RealĀ  inverting (the more simple but "destructive") way requires rasterizing.

I'm sorry, obviuosly I really misunderstood.
And the "clipping" part of my comment was not right. Actually I don't clip the larger geometry but instead substract another geometry layer from it.
Thats the destructive way.
Until now I didn't know about not destructive compounds - you made my day!
There's still a lot to learn -not to say to discover- inside Affinity.
