Edit All Layers.

Can somebody give me an example of what this does? I can't seem to get it to make any difference.

According to Serif help files  "allows selection of objects across all layers (rather than the current layer)."

Example. I have a document with a background image, with several shapes on top.

If I select a shape layer, I can make a marquee selection of the background and edit it, no matter how Edit All Layers is set. If I use the Eyedropper, if I have the shape layer selected, I can sample from the background, no matter how Edit All Layers is set.

If I use the clone tool on the background, I can only source from the background. no matter how Edit All Layers. is set. i.e, if I click on the shape, it still sources from the background, ignoring the shape layer on top.

Confused ;(

I think this is one of those times when the distinction between a "Layer" (a particular type of container layer) & a "layer" (a generic layer of any type) is important.

Try placing some or all of your layers into different Layer containers & toggle on & off Edit All Layers. With the all option off you should not be able to select things from different layers; with it on you should be able to select layers in different Layers.

Confusing, is it not? 89.gif
