How do bleeds work in Affinity Designer?

Recommended Posts

When you set up a bleed, why doesn't it show up in the work area...how does it export if you are exporting as a pdf? How do I properly set up the document bleeds for printing (PDF)?

Set the bleed in the document setup. To be able to see bled items, make sure clip to canvas is off. Anything over the page edge will hit the bleed area in the pdf as long as either you use a pdf type where the use bleed setting is on by default or you check the box under More in the export dialog.

If you desire to fake being able to see the bleed box like in just about any other application, you can draw a rectangle the size of the page plus double the bleed setting and position it properly around the page. Just make sure to disable seeing it when you export.

Hokey, I know. But we don't have this oft requested feature yet.

Oh, not sure this works with art boards. Don't think it does.

Ah yes--I hadn't had AD started before now today.

Whether using artboards or a page, the Clip to Canvas option is available. However, with artboards objects will clip to the canvas anyway regardless of the setting.

Shortcut is the \ (backslash) key.
