cekuhnen
Affinity can load AI files including the artboards. But any serious designer does not use the PDF preview when working with multiple art-boards and linked in images because this till blows up the file size. It seems Affinity however can only load artboards from AI files when the PDF preview function was turned on when saving. Any reason for that? Is that an Adobe reason? This requires that you have to open the original AI file and save it with PDF. I just downloaded AI trial to do so with my old files. Staff MEB Posted February 16, 2017 Staff Share Posted February 16, 2017 Hi cekuhnen Yes, PDF compatible files must be checked when saving the file in Illustrator for Affinity to be able to import data from them. The AI file format is proprietary. We can only import/open the file if there's a PDF stream present. Ah Ok I see - I would mentioned that on the website so that people now what format they can only import. Like in my case - I deleted AI since I bought Affinity and I read that you can open AI. Then yesterday I noticed that it does not actually work. So I got the AI trial to quickly convert the AI files. One a different side I also read online that other Adobe apps need the PDF Preview option saved to open the AI file in other Adobe apps. Since I only worked in AI (freehand) I never needed that and did not notice it.
