Seamless Canvas Rotation

Hey,

 

great Application (Affinity Photo) . I´m using it on an almost daily basis. But one thing is bothering me. Is there an option for seamlessly rotating the canvas?

I just found the 90° Option. But it would come really handy if it was possible to rotate the canvas with a button and the mouse like in Photoshop (R + Mouse). When Painting Masks and so on this would really help, because of stroke directions.

Not sure about seamless rotation but you have Rotate Left and Rotate Right under the View menu which rotates in 15 degree intervals

 

You should be able to assign shortcuts to these

Are you talking about rotating the canvas or the document? They are two different things. The document is always going to have straight vertical & horizontal edges because all the supported formats require that, which is why on the Document menu you only have the options to rotate it by 90° increments or flip it vertically or horizontally.

 

For convenience, you can rotate the canvas on screen, but that does not change the orientation of the document. You can do that with the View menu Rotate options, which rotate the canvas by 15° each time you click on one, or if you have a trackpad (Mac) you can enable rotation by an arbitrary amount in Preferences > Tools.

If I open a raw file, I can rotate it in any degree. I would like to do that in all circumstances. Now I need to go to Ability Photo for a while to manage this one.

 I just want to rotate the view, so i can paint in my desired direction. Totally missed that 15° option. Thanks for this one. That serves my needs for the moment. But it also would be nice to have an arbitrary rotation on non trackpad devices.
