Keep the same export format for multiple slices

Recommended Posts

Every time you make a new slice the export format always reverts to jpg, which is nice but slightly annoying if you want to export a bunch of slices as pngs as you have to change each slice individually. It would be nicer slices were made using the 'last used' format

We do something close to this.

If you have nothing selected, you will see that you can still chose a Preset or change export parameters in the Export Options panel. When you do this you are editing the default export options that will be applied when creating a new slice (either a regular slice or one created from a layer with the "Create Slice" button on the Layers panel).

So to create a bunch of PNG slices - first deselect, by clicking off spread or below the last item in the Slices panel - then change your export properties in the Export Options panel.  Any slice you create after that will use these export options.

These default settings are also saved with your document.  Each document has it's own defaults, so if you switch between open documents, you'll see the export options change.

We did think about whether new slices should use the export options of the existing selection, but there are two possible drawbacks with that approach -

- You may have a selection with multiple objects that have different export options, in which case which set of options do you use?

- Or, you may have no selection, in which case you need to use a default set of options (which is the option we thought would be the most predictable).

A note on the first drawback - when you do a multiple selection, you might notice small yellow warning triangles appear next to some of the property controls.  This denotes properties for which the selected items have more than one value. The value shown will be from the first selected item(unfortunately, determining what is the 'first selected item' depends upon how you made your selection).  When you edit that property, the new value will be applied to all selected items.  However, the selection may still contain other properties with more than one value, and these won't be affected until you edit that property (or pick a Preset).
