ShadowCodex Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 So I saw the notification for the beta update, and went and got it. I think I have run into several bugs that are causing it to hang up on windows 10. I'm running windows 10 with all windows updates installed. When I start the program, it runs fine. But after about a minute or so it completely locks up and wont respond. Now I don't know if it is related, but it seems to lock up my NIC as well. Chrome won't load anything, and all outbound and inbound traffic stops on my PC. May be coincdedence, but may not be. Is there something that Affinity Designer would be reaching out and interacting with the NIC on? Something that might lock up and cause an internet outage? Just trying to think it through. Are there log files or somewhere I can look for more error, warnings, etc? Thanks!
Mark Ingram Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 The only thing network related that Designer does is contact a server to find out if there is an update available. This won't be causing the problems you've described. Perhaps a driver update for your network card is causing all network related applications to hang?
ShadowCodex Posted September 27, 2016 Author Posted September 27, 2016 Hrm. I'll have to check recent updates to see. Are there any logs output by the beta program?
Mark Ingram Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 There is a log file at %APPDATA%\Affinity\Designer\1.0 (Beta), but it's pretty sparse right now, you won't find anything relevant in there. The Windows system logs might have more information.
ShadowCodex Posted September 27, 2016 Author Posted September 27, 2016 I think it is a computer specific problem. Runing beta on a computer at work and it is doing just fine... :'( Mark Ingram 1
TomR Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 I've been having the same problem on and off for the last couple of days. It's happened four times today on various files and it's just locked up again on exporting.
ShadowCodex Posted September 28, 2016 Author Posted September 28, 2016 Are you on windows 10? Are you running the latest beta version? I found my issue might have been power settings on windows. It was running on low power, turned to high power and I'm not having as many issues.
TomR Posted September 28, 2016 Posted September 28, 2016 (edited) Are you on windows 10? Are you running the latest beta version? Yes to both. I found my issue might have been power settings on windows. It was running on low power, turned to high power and I'm not having as many issues. Thanks, I'll give that a try.
