I literally pulled my hair out this morning when I tried to select a color from an image. Instead of selecting the color, the entire image was colored. Even after 30 minutes of reading documentation and watching YouTube videos, I couldn't find a solution. I finally figured out (by accident) that I need to first select the color for the FOREGROUND, then click the color and then click the little circle AGAIN to apply that color to the foreground and THEN AGAIN copy the value to the clipboard.

I'm not a professional, so I've probably missed a lot. Please bear with me 😀 Later I found the "Copy to clipboard" function in the color panel. But unfortunately the value is not automatically copied to the clipboard, you have to laboriously copy it by hand. Seriously?

Professional users probably use the color picker every day and use it A LOT. I can't believe they need 2 extra clicks to get a color. Is there a shortcut to automatically copy the color value to the clipboard?

Thank you very much!

One method you could use is to open the Colour Panel, set it to Wheel (via the ‘hamburger’ menu), and then use the Colour Picker Tool on the Tools Panel.

When you have picked the colour it will be displayed in the Colour Panel where the hex value is there to be copied.

It’s not a one-click solution, and there’s a little bit of set-up, but if you are picking lots of colours at the same time it might save you a little bit of effort.

You can also sample colours from the Info Panel via the Sampler but, unfortunately, you cannot copy the values from there, which would be a nice thing to be able to do.

I don't know how to use a clipboard colour but if you activate the option "Apply to Selection" a picked colour gets set as the foreground colour (AND the tiny colour well), regardless whether an object is selected or not.

Not quite sure that I fully get the idea. It doesn't really make difference whether I use wheel or not. I always have to click again on the small circle to apply the picked color (for copying the value). Please, see the screenhshot. This is how it looks after picking the color. The color appears in the small circle, but the foreground color and the hex value are not updated. This seems like a minor issue, but this is a very tedious workflow even for me not being a professional.

Ah, that's much better. Thank you. The problem was that I had an object selected so that the new color was applied to it. I didn't say "clipboard colour" but "color value". I use this pretty often. For example, to get the hex value for web applications.

Thanks for the help guys!

The Colour Picker on the Tools Panel works differently to the Colour Picker in the Colour Panel and the Swatches Panel.

Yes, but the main "problem" was the "Apply to Selection" option. I didn't de-select all objects. That was quite different from what I was used in Photoshop. Again, thank you all for the help. Very much appreciated! 👍
