I've just bought this software, a couple months ago and I do like it, but the issue is that, why isn't there an actual eraser, I understand that you do have an “eraser” that is in pixel persona. But that is not an actual eraser, I don't like it just masks it. By nationality it's just covering it. And you tried to delete the mask the previous erased world just come back. It's frustrating especially after It so-called erased and I cannot draw over it and just hide the new lines, I cannot draw over it and it's irritating the hell out of me. I want an actual eraser, and not in a different box but in the main box that is in designer persona. Also let me drag the Tool bin because I hardly use the left side and it's irritating to move back and forth instead of it just putting it on the right side so that my hand can easily just swap back and forth. Please can you fix this, I left Photoshop because I believed that this is a good program to continue with my work.

So you were probably looking for a replacement for a photo editor, namely Affinity Photo. Not Affinity Designer, which is a drawing application - primarily vector, which of course works differently than erasing pixels. However, for vector erasing, you can try the Knife tool.

Uncheck View -> Dock Tools

Alternatively, learn the keyboard shortcuts for the tools you most commonly work with and it won't matter where they are.

Agreed, it sounds like the OP was looking for Affinity Photo.  Designer is more like an Illustrator replacement, but not quite really that either.

I had to check something here to figure out what you were actually getting.

Realize that the Designer persona is primarily intended for vector work (think Illustrator not PhotoShop), while the Pixel persona contains an assortment of tools for raster work (a more limited subset of those found in Affinity Photo, which is what you probably should be using if the goal was a substitute for PhotoShop).

The eraser tool is a raster tool (thus why it is in the pixel persona in Designer) and it *DOES* act like the traditional PhotoShop-style eraser tool when it is applied to a pixel layer.  Only pixel layers support raster editing of the kind handled by the eraser tool.  When you try to use the eraser with a vector object or an image layer (different from a pixel layer), it creates a mask instead, which allows you to perform raster-like editing without actually rasterizing the object; it is a step closer to a "non-destructive" type of workflow.

When you initially bring an image into one of the Affinity apps (ex. a photo taken with a camera), it comes in as an image layer, rather than a pixel layer.  This is part of Serif's attempt to support more non-destructive workflows, in addition to allowing for the possibility that the image might be linked to the external file rather than embedded in the document file you are creating (linked images may be shared by multiple documents and thus editing them within the context of a single document could unintentionally impact other documents).  Consequently, the eraser tool treats it as a vector object, as raster-level editing is not supported with image layers.

If you have a layer that is not currently a pixel layer and you want to manipulate it as a raster object, you need to rasterize it, which converts it to a pixel layer.  After that the eraser tool will work as I believe you intend.

You can rasterize a layer by right-clicking on it in the Layers panel and choosing Rasterize in the context menu, or by making sure it is the currently selected layer and choosing Rasterize in the Layer menu in the menu bar.

As an alternative, you can also adjust the assistant settings to change these behaviors to some degree.  Under Settings (may still be called Preferences if you are using Windows or an older Mac?) look at the Assistant category.

The "Erasing from vector layers" setting is set to "Place mask layer inside and erase" by default, but you can change that to "Rasterize layer and erase", which would cause an image or vector layer to automatically be rasterized into a pixel layer if you try to erase from it using the eraser tool.  This means that your vector objects would lose the property of being vector, but it sounds like that might be the workflow you are looking for?

Similarly the "Delete selection from Image/RAW layer" setting is set to "Add mask layer" by default, but that can be changed to "Rasterize and delete" if you prefer.
