wizox Posted January 15 Posted January 15 If I change the justification (left, right, center) of a paragraph with hyphenation, all the hyphenation disappears. I have tried all the settings and am at a loss. Where am I going wrong? Quote
Old Bruce Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I am not seeing this on Mac OS. One thing to try is to use an actual Paragraph Style instead of [No Style]. Another thing is that the Paragraph panel is not showing the settings for the text on the Right, the stuff that is fully justified. You need to have your text caret in the paragraph in order to see and set the options. wizox Posted January 15 Author Posted January 15 Thanks for the speedy reply. I applied a style to it and got the same result. The paragraph on both sides is the same exact text. The only difference is that when I switch from Left Align to Justify Left all the hyphenation that had been present DISAPPEARED! That is my complaint -- I can't set justified text and have Publisher hyphenate automatically. Quote
Old Bruce Posted January 15 Posted January 15 After much messing about the only way I can get what you are seeing is to have the language set to None. Use the Character Panel to set the language. MikeTO Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I can't duplicate this issue with Alignment = anything and Language > Spelling = English US, Language > Hyphenation = Auto. Could you share the sample file so we could look at it? MikeTO Posted January 15 Posted January 15 I meant could you please upload the afpub file to your post here for review. You could copy the text frame to a blank document if you don't want to share the whole document. wizox Posted January 16 Author Posted January 16 Sorry -- here is the afpub file! hyphenation file.afpub Quote
MikeTO Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Hi, this is a known issue. You have set Paragraph > Justification > Desired and Maximum Letter Spacing to greater than 0 which won't work with hyphenation. I included a tip for this in my Publisher manual: Tip: Due to a bug with hyphenating justified text, you must set Minimum, Desired, and Maximum letter spacing to 0 for hyphenation to work properly. If you set these values for justified text with Auto Hyphenation enabled or with words that include soft hyphens, Publisher may not break words at the optimal positions leading to undesirable white space between words. You'll have to set these values to 0 for hyphenation to work. wizox Posted January 16 Author Posted January 16 Thanks VERY MUCH! I hadn't seen your previous posts or the other ones you referred me to. Thanks again! This is a very serious issue and I hope Affinity gets a fix SOON! Quote
