I'm trying to create a macro in Affinity Photo to automate some basic edits I apply to nearly all my images, but I’ve hit a snag where certain steps can’t be added to the macro chain.

Specifically:

  • I want to duplicate the opened image to a new layer.
  • After that, I’d like to apply a premade Tone Mapping Persona preset (one I’ve already created) to the duplicated layer.

Is there a workaround to include these steps in a macro? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

You can duplicate the layer by clicking Layer>Duplicate

This isn't something we have a workaround for, as we can't record a Macro in the Tone Mapping persona :(

You may be able to create a LUT from your tone mapping persona preset when applied to an image.

Create a LUT preset then apply that preset as a LUT Adjustment layer using a macro

Looks like the 'duplicate' cannot be recorded into a macro? Maybe I did something wrong there and because of that it did not work.

Thank you, I will give it a try!

Layer > Duplicate will work in a macro. Just make sure you have the layer selected in the layers panel

Perfect thanks, got it to work!

Tried the same directly from the layers panel (right click on the selected layer --> duplicate) did not work.
