My attempt to add a plain nlack 0.8 point stroke border (outline color) to Jost font characters caused unexpected results. What am I doing wrong? Is this a font problem or did I choose the wrong option?

What font are you using and did you try with another font?

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

Thank you for helping me diagnose the problem! It is indeed a font problem. I paid a font artist on Fiver to add contextual alternate glyphs with hollow sections to a few letters (aeiouy + hnqr) in the Jost font. All letters in the original, unmodified Jost font seem perfectly OK; adding modified glyphs seems to have affected the base letters in a subtle way only visible when I merely thickened the letter outlines.

You've not done/chosen anything wrong in Affinity. A workaround to try is to enclose the text in a Compound then apply the desired stroke and fill to the Compound instead of the text.
