Displaying items in the layers palette

Hi, I have a question about displaying items in the layers palette for those that are both on the artboard and outside the artboard...
I wonder if there is another viewing option... maybe more logical (maybe)!… I'm perplexed.

Is it really an Artboard? So are you doing this in ADesigner? In the layers panel, I am missing the Artboard layer with its "#" icon.
I think it's a canvas, and then the selected layer and its thumbnails display the selected image, which is always displayed relatively - that is, as the layer/image looks, not as it looks when it's placed somewhere. It just shows its crop if it doesn't fit on the canvas anymore.

Artboard vs Canvas is not important in this case, but I think it is displayed correctly - "Layer thumbnail" is a preview of the layer, not the preview of the document that is displayed in the Navigator. So both display something different.
