I use Affinity Designer and Photo, and the only way to write decimals is by using a comma (,). I want to use a period (.), but it doesn't work. I use Windows 10 on a PC. Can anyone please help?

Hi @DimitrisPap and welcome to the forums. What happens when you type a period, do you get a space or just nothing?

  • What font are you typing in?
  • What spelling language is the text formatted with in Character > Language > Spelling?
  • If you type a period and then press Shift + Left Arrow and then press Ctrl + U,  Publisher will convert the selection to its Unicode value. Do you see U+002E?
  • Which operating system are you using?
  • What language is your computer set to?
  • What user interface language is Affinity set to?
  • What keyboard are you using?

The OP said it was Windows 10 on a PC but everything else is still unclear.

In what context are you trying to use a non-system defined decimal?

At least in context of tables, you can specify a custom decimal separator (one that deviates from the system defined decimal):

If you want to use custom (non-regional) decimal system-wide, you would need to specify the decimal symbol in Advanced regional settings accessed withing Region panel of Control Panel.

Hello, thank you for your consideration and I apologize for the delayed answer.

1.       There is no problem when I write a text but only when I write values on transform window or position text size etc. If I write 15.5 the result is 155

2.       Spelling language is English (United States)

3.       Sorry I haven’t installed Publisher, I don’t need it.

4.       I use Windows 10

5.       My computer is set to English (United States) as a primary language and Greek as secondary.

6.       If I choose Edit – Settings Language is set to English (United States).

7.       My keyboard is the only old (very old) part of my computer. It is Microsoft multimedia keyboard but I am used to it.

Unfortunately I use another program that I have to set the Decimal Symbol on Customize format to period (.) Everytime I want to use Affinity I have to change it to comma (,) but it not convenient and except this I prefer to use the keypad. I used to use illustrator and I didn’t have any problem with period (.)

Sincerely Dimitris Pap
