Affinty Photo 2.5.7.

I can reproduce it...

When opening the program.

MacOS 15.1.1

Hardware Acceleration is on.

I don't know if i'm the only one who gets this bug but...

When I launch Affinity Photo 2, I get stuck on "Checking licence configuration...". My only work around for the bug is to crash the program. Here is how i do it!

1. Open the program.

2. Get stuck on "Checking licence configuration..."

3. Press "About Photo"

4. Press "EULA" or "Third party licence"

5. Wait for which ever one want to crash first...

6. Get macOS Crash screen and press "Start again"

7. Now the program work!!!

I've had this bug since I used V2 and this is the only way I can launch the program after my macOS has been restarted...

Is there already a fix for this bug?

I can send a full bug report if needed!

I don't know why it's crashing but the license agreement font which is missing on your system is Courier New. Have you removed or replaced Courier New on your computer? Is the font available from the Affinity font menu or in the menu of other applications?

Hi @Kracken and welcome to the forums,

The Licence Agreement (EULA) font is Lucida Grande, and Courier New is used for the Third Party Licences text. Both fonts are macOS Sequoia system fonts which can't be removed or deactivated, so it's odd that the font is displaying as it is but it could be because of a font conflict...

  1. Can you select either or both fonts within Affinity Photo itself and if so, do they display correctly?
  2. Have you installed another version of Lucida Grande or any other new fonts recently?

Things I would be inclined to try...

  1. If using FontBook, check for Duplicate Fonts, File → Resolve Duplicates

  2. Run a Factory Reset of Affinity Photo by holding the Ctrl Key while launching the app. Leave the first option selected, Clear User Defaults, uncheck the second and third options and then click Clear let the app finish loading and see if you still experience the same issue...

  3. If that doesn't work, boot your Mac in Safe Mode and see whether Affinity Photo launches without issue... Starting your Mac in safe mode can help identify whether the issues you’re experiencing are caused by software that loads as your Mac starts up. Fix any issues that are presented if there are any then reboot normally.
