Question of understanding:

Got Publisher 2.5.6 and Designer 2.5.6 under Windows 11.

After starting Affinity Publisher, the Affinity Designer icon appears in the top left corner. But it is not activated.

How can I activate the Aff. Designer Personas icon when working with Publisher ? ?

Would like to switch from Publisher to Designer and vice versa.

Thanks in advance

All ASuite applications is same installation type? MSIX vs MSI/EXE.

Hi Pšenda,

I installed AffDesigner with affinity-designer-msi-2.5.6.exe

Mmmh, I´m sorry. What went wrong? Where is the mistake I made?

For StudioLink to work, all of the Affinity applications must be:

  • of the same version (X.Y.Z = X.Y.Z), and;
  • installed via the same method (MSIX and MSIX or MSI/EXE and MSI/EXE).

Thanks to GarryP and Pšenda,

I understand: Same version-> 2.5.6 and same installing method.

I installed AffPublisher in 2023; I´ll try to find out the exe-file I used in 2023.

Regards to you

Now I’m confused.

You said that have the latest 2.5.6 versions of Publisher and Designer so I’m now wondering why you have mentioned the version of Publisher from 2023.

If you have recently downloaded both Publisher and Designer at the latest version, and you have the same installation type for both, then you should be able to install them both and use them together.

(Any EXE you downloaded in 2023 will not be the 2.5.6 version, but you should be able to download old versions (if necessary) from wherever you purchased the licences.)

Hi GarryP,

I bought and installed AffPublisher in 2023. I bought and installed AffDesigner a few days ago (2024).

Now both programms are version 2.5.6 now as AffPublisher got an update right after I installed AffDesigner.

Both programs are now version 2.5.6

In each application, use menu “Help → My Account” and look at the top-right of the dialog.

Where it says “ID:”, if that ID starts with “release2-” then it’s a retail MSIX installation, whereas if it starts “release2nsb-” then it’s a retail MSI/EXE installation.

If these are different between applications then you have used different installations types and StudioLink will not work.

Hi GarryP,

thanks a lot for your help !

AffPublisher ID:release2-x

AffDesigner ID:release2nsb-x

Mmmh, never knew that and never thougt about that difference.

You're welcome.

That's something which I think many users don't even realise is there, and even if you do know it’s there it's not easy to ‘reason’ what it means from what it says, from a user perspective (unless you commit it to memory).

Given the importance of the installation type and its impact on application functionality, Serif has indeed chosen the least user friendly option. release2nsb can perhaps be interpreted as a "non sandbox" version.
