Interactive setting for any brush tool Width

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Apart if I'm missing something already here, but I really miss something in Affinity Photo : changing any brush tool interactively, for example Alt+right click & drag, instead of going to the toolbar to adjust the brush width. That would be a killer for productivity and comfort ...

Thanks in advance,

Regards.

Hi @GarryP,

Thanks for your answer - this doesn't work here (AZERTY keyboard).

That being said, even with this possibility, I'd stick to my proposal ... it was very efficient in Photoshop. Despite all the obvious qualities of Affinity Photo, this kind of little ergonomy details make the difference. I hope the devs will take this suggestion into account :)

Thanks again,

Best regards.

You're welcome.

I don’t think you’re alone in wanting another way to change the brush size ‘on the fly’, as I’m pretty sure this has come up a few times.

In the meantime, you might like to try changing the default shortcuts to be some keys which you can use – you can find them in Settings/Shortcuts/Photo/Paint Brush Tool.

  • Press the CTRL and ALT keys together and:
    • Click to cycle between width and hardness, shape and spacing, and rotation attributes.
    • Drag left/right or up/down to adjust the corresponding attribute. For example, with width and hardness attributes selected, drag left/right to adjust the first attribute and up/down to adjust the second attribute.

Ok @carl123 ... you've just made my day !! this is EXACTLY what I was looking for, thanks a lot !!

Maybe a good idea would be to add these informations at the bottom, along with the tips about Drag / Drag + Shift / Drag + Alt ...

I think it's time to review my way of browsing the help file 😅

Thanks again,

Cheers 🍻
