can preserve layers for later editing?

Recommended Posts

When saving an image with multiple image and text layers as a png (with the intent of working on the file another day), reopening the file has the layers uneditable.  Same issue if I try to export the file.  All the layers show on the image, but not in the layers panel.

Would someone please explain what I am doing wrong?

PNG does not support multiple layers.

you must store the file in Affinity format, or any other format supporting multiple layers like SVG, PDF, or TIFF.

My posts focus on technical aspects and leave out most of social grease like „maybe“, „in my opinion“, „I might be wrong“ etc. just add copy/paste all these softeners from this signature to make reading more comfortable for you. @MassiveMo Welcome to the forum.

If you want to retain layers and all capabilities, you need to save a "native version" as an afPhoto, afDesign or afPublish file. When you export to most formats, you end up with a flattened file that loses all those layers. So, keep a native copy to re-edit using the Save command, then if you want a JPG or PNG, export to the desired format.
