Koenenhe Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 I "place" a large file in a document, where the pages have two columns. Some pages are then not seen as "text", I cannot enter the cursor there, cannot change text, etc. What did I wrong? Quote
Hangman Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 Hi @Koenenhe and welcome to the forums, What file format is the file you're placing? Can you upload the file so we can take a look at the content makeup... Koenenhe Posted October 9, 2024 Author Posted October 9, 2024 I attach the used afpub and the text file. I use the following steps in Publiser with TestDestIJDS.afpub add 1 page with master "Vervolgpaginae artikel" (the first opage of each published artikel has a shorter column and a colored top, I will change this later) "place" the attached document Apply the attached document. The results are not always the same (?) but now it fills the Startpage, adss Startpage with ONE page for the endotes, second column only Place the rest of the document by shift-rightclicking the triangel at bottom right, in the FIRST text page, not the end-note page. Not ALL pages are "placed" and the end-note page (by far not complete) has vanished. A lot of pages are not placed, are missing. No endotes at all now I change the first of the doument pages in master Start Artikel Very queer: now now it works OK. except for the missing pages) I add 1 page with master "Startpagine artikel" (first page of each published artikel, has a shorter column and a colored top) "place" the attached document Apply the attached document. The results are not always the same (?) but now it fills the Startpage, adss Startpage with ONE page for the endotes, second column only Place the rest of the document by shift-rightclicking the triangel at bottom right, in the FIRST text page, not the end-note page. Not ALL pages are "placed" and the end-note page (by far not complete) has vanished I change all pages after the first StartPage in Vervolg Paginas As queer as the other route: all text is now accessible, so I have attached a doc where this is not the case, but I cannot explain how I have created this one. This is DesTIJDS2024-4.afpub. I hope you can explain it. Since using 2 column pages the result of "placing" a text document has been very inconsistent, and unexplainable. Good luck! Hangman Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 Hi @Koenenhe, Many thanks for the explanation and the files... The main issue you have is that you have multiple copies of the same Master applied to your page... Three of the Masters have text frames which means when you look at page three it has four text frames instead of just two which is what you need... You have the Bladnummering rechts-oneven Master applied three times along with the Vervolgpaginas Artikel Master which both contain the taller text frames in addition to the Startpagina Artikel which contains the shorter text frames... When adding Multiple Masters to a page you want to ensure you don't have repeating elements on each Master, e.g., Text Frames, Page Numbers etc., This is likely the reason why you're having issues when placing the text file... If you rebuild page three just using two Master Pages then you should find the text file places correctly, albeit you need to delete the Endnotes before Shift Clicking to Flow the text... The last few pages are indeed missing when placing the file, I'll need to take a closer look at the text file to understand why and then update the thread but I just wanted to give you a heads up as to the cause of the initial problem and explain the reasons why you're having problems placing the text in the first place... You also have multiple instances of most text styles so you will probably want to clean the text styles up as well to avoid confusion and remove any text styles that are not required... One other point, rather than using two text frames on your Master Pages you can use one Text frame and apply two columns to the frame in the context toolbar which will make it easier to manage... Koenenhe Posted October 9, 2024 Author Posted October 9, 2024 Thanks a lot, I already learned that I have to view the layers view. I did not how to use it. Another thing I just learned: use a master "empty page" with only the columns defined. All the other master can then ba added later. Thanks a lot for you time (and so quickly after I generated the call). I downloaded the manual, which I will study. I will keep track of endnotes, as I still think these are trated strangely. CLose the discussion. Regards Hennie Hangman 1 Quote
Hangman Posted October 9, 2024 Posted October 9, 2024 That's absolutely no problem at all, I'm glad I could help a little... Yes, @MikeTO's manual should be a great guide and will hopefully help you on your journey to learning Publisher but always feel free to ask questions in the forums as there are plenty of knowledgeable people who will be able to help you with any questions you may have... Good luck...
