Steffany
Re: Affinity Photo V2 (Windows 11) Hi, I tried opening a jpg file downloaded from my camera's card. The message is "the file type is not supported" Does Affinity Photo open only JPEG files and not JPG? I've renamed the file, moved it to Documents, but it made no difference. The file size is 6,302 KB - is that too large? Any help is appreciated, Thanks!
Hangman
Hi @Steffany and welcome to the forums, Either file extension should be fine… Can you upload a sample file where you see ‘the file type is not supported’ error message… so we can take a look… Quote Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5 MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse
Steffany
I'm concerned that the JPG extension is not an option. Most of my files are JPGs.

Your file opens without issue for me in Affinity Photo on both Windows and Mac though just to be sure could you upload another image as a .zip file since the forums will apply their own compression to uploaded image files (sorry I should have requested that in the first place)... The file format and file size shouldn't be an issue... Do you open the files directly from the memory card or do you copy them to the computer first? Steffany
The file opens for me in my macBook preview, too, but not in Windows. I'm struggling hard with Windows since the iMac died and took PS with it. P1010706.JPG.zip
Steffany
I copy them. I moved this one from the camera's card to a memory stick. I don't understand that you can open the file and my PC can't
Hangman
Hi @Steffany, Many thanks for the zipped file, again it opens here on both Windows and Mac without any issues... You could perhaps try a factory reset of Affinity Photo by holding the Ctrl key while launching the app. When you see the Clear User Data screen leave the first three options ticked then click the Clear button let Publisher finish launching and see whether that fixes the problem… Note 1: A factory reset will reset any customisation you’ve made to the tools panel and context toolbar... Steffany
Thanks, Hangman. I'll try that, though I haven't customized anything, just struggled through, mostly.

It may make no difference but is certainly worth a try… I’m assuming the JPG opens in other Windows apps? Steffany
Your PC is more cooperative than mine. It won't open the file at all.
Steffany
It won't. Maybe I'll try to download the mac version. PC and I have a rocky relationship...
Hangman
Out of interest how are you trying to open the JPG file, are you double clicking, dragging the JPG directly into the Affinity Photo UI or right clicking on the file and using "open with" and choosing Affinity Photo? Steffany
I try to open directly from Affinity Photo. I'll download the mac version to my laptop. Maybe it will work better there. Thanks for your help! Hangman
