How to update from 2.5.3 to 2.5.5 instead of fresh install

Recommended Posts

Hi @Void2258 and welcome to the forums,

Are you downloading the same installer you used for 2.5.3, i.e., MSIX or MSI/EXE?

Affinity Designer 2.5.5 | Affinity Photo 2.5.5 | Affinity Publisher 2.5.5
Affinity Designer Beta 2.6.0.2861 | Affinity Photo Beta 2.6.0.2861 | Affinity Publisher Beta 2.6.0.2861

MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse
HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse

The Download prompt indicates that @Void2258 installed using the MSI/EXE version.

If they're getting a full install rather than an update, that indicates they downloaded the MSIX version after clicking on Download, rather than downloading the matching EXE/MSI version.

I really wish Serif would fix this.

How does it differ from the MSIX prompt? I have the MSI/EXE version installed so haven't seen the MSIX Prompt...

That was my assumption...

Yup. I had clicked MISX since it was first, but when I got the MSI/EXE file, it updated fine. This is weird. Why does the format of the file from the update site change what is installed? It's all the same programs in the end.

Would also be nice if I could download one updater for all 3 of them if I use all 3 instead of having to update each separately. Or even upgrade without needing to manually download anything (in-program update).

It says: Install. If you click on it, the application downloads the correct version of the updater, and passes it off to Windows MSIX processing. MSIX processing runs the update, terminates the application, and restarts the updated application.

It is a different version of the program, with the same external functions but also with differences in the internal functions of how it interacts with the system. MSIX applications are sandboxed for security purposes.
