Export preview background in Sequoia

Recommended Posts

I think this is new in Sequoia but don't have Sonoma now to verify.

  1. Create a new document and choose Export - the preview space will be solid black which I think is new. While you're here, select PDF digital HQ to reset the options.
  2. Cancel export. Draw a text frame and type some text. Choose Export - the preview space will have a grey background, at least it did for me the first time I tried it in the retail and beta versions.
  3. Cancel export. Choose Export and select Include Bleed - the preview space will have a checkerboard background. Even if I quit Publisher now, the background will always be checkerboard instead of grey when there's at least one object on the page. I don't know why it was beta on first use but I quit the app and it was the same until I selected Include Bleed.

While I'm here, one more thing but it's just feedback. Sequoia added new Fill, Centre, Move & Resize, and Full Screen Tile commands to the top of the menu along with their two spacers, and this menu no longer fits on a 14" MBP at the default screen resolution which is unfortunate. These two little changes would make it fit again:

  • The Minimize and Zoom commands could be grouped with Fill and Centre as Apple does in its own apps, eliminating two spacers.
  • Toggle Full Screen could be moved to the View menu as Apple does in its own apps.

@MikeTO I've logged the issue regarding the export preview being black. I don't seem to be able to get the grey background to appear. If you can provide a screenshot I can update the report to include it.

Thanks Lee. I cleared my user data to see if I could recreate it and there are a few more oddities that might be useful to note.

After clearing user data, I created a document and chose Export. It defaulted to PNG and I got a checkerboard instead of black. Note that the checkerboard is slightly overlapping the left side of the window titlebar. Switching to PDF (for print) gave me a checkerboard and to PDF (digital, either one) gave me black. Switching back to PNG gave me a light grey, not the medium grey I was seeing earlier.

I didn't test it further as I assume there's just one tiny thing to fix and all of this will go away.
