AutoFlow selection bug

Recommended Posts

Another issue with facing page frames linked on the master. (The other issues are here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/214709-master-frame-text-style-glitch/&do=findComment&comment=1269976)

Use a smaller screen to see this properly.

  1. Create a facing pages doc starting on the right, with frames linked from left to right sides
  2. Go to page 1 and overflow the frame with text, enough to fill at least three frames
  3. With the Frame Text tool selected, Shift + click the Text Flow Out control to AutoFlow the text
    1. Publisher will centre the left side of the first spread in the screen - either the right side should remain centred in the screen or it should show the last page in the story, but it should definitely not be showing the left side of the first spread. This is just a symptom of the real issue.
    2. Publisher will show X-handles around the off canvas frame to indicate it is selected
    3. But the Layers panel will show the right side frame as selected
    4. And the Transform panel will show that the right side frame is selected (its coordinates are relative to the spread origin in the upper-left corner of page 1)
    5. So which is really selected? Switch to the Move tool and the Transform panel will refresh showing that the off canvas frame is truly selected. This is the actual bug, after AutoFlowing, either the original frame or the last frame should be selected, not an off canvas frame that has no relationship with the current story and text flow. If you repeat this test with a spread that has two sides, you'll find that the original frame is still selected after AutoFlow. So even though the frame on page 1 isn't really linked from another frame, that master page link is messing things up.

Notwithstanding the fact that changing to the Move tool shows the coordinates of the off canvas frame, I now think that what might really be happening here is Publisher is centering the left side in the window (which it shouldn't) and then drawing the size handles and flow controls for the right side frame where the left side is.

@MikeTO I'm don't seem to be able to reproduce this in Pub 2.5.5. Could you do a quick screen recording from starting a new document, just so I know I'm using the same workflow. As once confirmed I can log it with the developers.

Hi Lee, here's a screen recording and the document I used. I recorded this in the beta but I confirmed it is in retail, too. Thanks.
