jg.
i know photoshop has this handy option under Image... it's to open a duplicate of the image, instead of working on the original image. when you save, it's the copy that's saved, not over the original image it's very handy. you should add this to sffinity photo. MikeTO
+ 1 Many apps have a File > Duplicate command, including Apple app. I'd love to see it in all three Affinity apps. I know I can choose Save As and then re-open the original file, but it's an extra step. You'll want to Save any changes into the new file, anyway (at least with @jg.'s workflow and with mine, and probably yours). The Save As gives you the duplicate file, and changes the name of what you're working on. Then later Save updates it, and your original remains safe. MikeTO
1 hour ago, walt.farrell said: Why reopen the original? It depends on my workflow. When I'm working on a set of related illustrations that are separate files, I like to keep them all open so I can copy and paste between them. If I want to duplicate one to use as the basis for the next one, a Duplicate command is faster than choosing Save As and reopening the original. In most Mac apps, choosing File > Duplicate will duplicate the file into the same folder as the original file with "copy" appended to the name. And the app will automatically open the file rename popup which normally requires clicking on the document title. This is actually a somewhat newer way to do it but the way Adobe does it is familiar to most Mac users. Choosing Duplicate in Photoshop opens a dialog to name the duplicate which won't be created until you click OK. The duplicate isn't saved automatically and it's up to you to save it. This method might work better for Affinity because it doesn't allow renaming files via the window titlebar. Another workflow where this would be very useful is for Books. If I'm just finished with Chapter 1 and want to start on Chapter 2, I might want to Duplicate #1 as #2, delete the text from the duplicate, and paste in the new chapter's text. walt.farrell 1 Quote Download a free PDF manual for Affinity Publisher 2.5 Download a quick reference chart for Affinity's Special Characters Affinity 2.5 for macOS Sequoia 15.1, MacBook Pro 14" (M4 Pro)
