Affinity Publisher - can I cut and paste from Word and merge into existing styles?

Recommended Posts

When I cut and paste text from a word document into Affinity Publisher it preserves most of the styles. All is good.

I then amend the styles that have not been properly inputted. My aim is to prepare a template ready for the rest of the chapters.

I then go back to Word, cut and paste the next chapter and drop it into Affinity.

It just adds all the styles again adding '1' next to them, still containing the errors I fixed.

Is there no way of merging the styles?

At worst, I thought I might be able to delete HEADING 1 style and append it to the HEADING style. This is what Word and Mac Pages will let you do. But Affinity just deletes the style - even though it is being used - and then changes it into a random style in the list.

Adding the "...1" styles needs to be fixed by Serif. There is a way of replacing the styles.

Use the Find and Replace panel. Using the cogs in this panel you can select the styles you are looking for and the styles you want them to be replaced with. Not very elegant I know.

They are only added because they didn't match exactly the styles already in the Publisher document.

You shouldn't do that until you're done importing the Word data. After you amend then they no longer match what yoyur pasting, which is what causes the new styles to be created.
