Confused about connecting curves?

Is it necessary to select the blue endpoint to be truly connected? If no blue node is selected, it is a disconnected connection? I am a little confused. What is the reason for setting it this way?

If you draw a continuous curve the end node is always automatically selected before you add the next node, i.e. solid blue so I think the same logic applies...

All you need to do, with the Pen tool selected, assuming the curve is selected is to Ctrl-Click the last node to continue the curve, you don't need 'Add New Curve to Selected Curves Object' selected in the context toolbar...

This is not a bug, but it is expected behaviour and has always worked this way...
