I have installed version 2.5.3 of Affinity. My scanner is set to open Affinity when I scan to any image file types such as .jpg, etc. When I scan to an image, it automatically opens Affinity version 2.3. It then crashes. Now, if I open Affinity first, then then scan, it opens Affinity version 2.5.3, the latest version. Is there a fix for this or do I just always need to remember to open Affinity first? Thanks for any ideas. Max

It sounds like you have two versions installed, 2.3 and 2.5.3. You'll probably find both if them if you click the Windows Start button and look for Affinity Photo 2 in the list of all applications.

This can happen, for example, if you've installed 2.3 using the EXE/MSI version of the installer, then later when there's an update you pick the wrong installer (MSIX) from the Download site.

If that has happened, your best fix may be to uninstall all your V2 applications and download the latest 2.5.3 EXE/MSI installers and reinstall. Then be careful with each future update to pick that version of the installer.

You can download from https://affinity.store/update/universal-licence

Hi Walt: This did not work. I uninstalled Affinity completely. Then I installed the latest version 2.5.3. I opened it. It worked. I closed it and then ran a scan. The scan automatically opened the old version 2.3 with a message to update the newer version 2.5.3.

Please tell me which installer you downloaded (file name, please).

Then, please show the exact message you got asking you to update.

First, I uninstalled. Then I downloaded MSI/EXE(x64). I did this twice. The scanner would open version 2.3. I got the message "New version available. An application update to version 2.5.3.2516 is available." When I tried it with downloading MSI/EXE(ARM64) it said this was the wrong installer for my CPU. I have a two CPU HP workstation. Thanks.

Next I tried both MSIX(x64 and MSIX (ARM64). The former installed but I had the same problem. The later would not install at all giving me this error message
"App installation failed with error message: Windows cannot install package SerifEuropeLtd.AffinityPhoto2 because the package requires architecture ARM64, but this computer has architecture x64. (0x80073d10)"

Your choices are MSI/EXE (X64) or MSIX (X64). Definitely not ARM64.

Again, when you were asked to update (after the scanner started 2.3) what was the exact message you got?

If it's the MSI version, it will show "OK" and "Download". If it's MSIX, it will show "OK" and "Install".

I suspect you got "Download", which would mean that 2.3 is the MSI/EXE version, and you did not uninstall it earlier when you said you did. How did you do the Uninstall for all the Affinity applications. The Windows Start Menu should show you all of them, and you can right-click and Uninstall each from there. If you used another mechanism, you may have missed some.
