Sorry bugging you with repeating patterns today, just trying to be a little more effective.. but I stumbled on a challenge.

I get to repeat what I´m doing in the main window, but if I start using shape builder it stops following. Would that be a bug, or a reasonable answer to that? 🙂 Or hopefully a good workaround?

I would not need shape builder for this shape, but before I go more advanced.. 🙂

Anyone.

Hi @EngraverHand,

It appears that using the shape builder 'Remove' Action will unlink the 'Transform' and 'Vector Curves' attributes of the symbol object and it's not possible to re-sync these again from the panel. I'm lead to believe this is a bug, as using a similar function such as a boolean subtract does not subsequently result in the affected Curve becoming de-synced. The 'Add' action does appear to keep the objects synced inside the symbol layer, but does not clean up the previous geometry in all the other symbols.

I'll log this with the developers for further investigation.

You could try using the boolean ops instead of the shape builder, info below.

Thanks a lot! 🙂 I´ll get around it somehow for now, but would love and hope it will be in a future update 🙂 Thanks for your reply!

Do it outside the symbol, and then drag it in. I make a rectangle with no fill or outline as my symbol. I then draw my pattern element in the rectangle or drag in to it.

I like compounds for for something simple like this. Think of then as non destructive booleans. Unfortunately they behave oddly if created in the symbol and you would have to do them outside the symbol and drag in as I have above.

That’s interesting, thank you very much! 🙂 Just crashed, but I’ll try that tomorrow..

I had a lot of fun playing with repeating patterns, and forgot all about I had a job to do, so if this works easy like this I’m all back to being serious at work again! Thank you again! 🙂
