Guest Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 As an artist who has a disability, my art style and the only way I know how to draw on the PC is with a mouse. This has always entailed (Since PS 7.0) using the LINE TOOL in PIXELS MODE on photoshop to draw images on a blank page. (See photo for reference, what appears as rounded lines are actually a multitude of straight lines) Line Tool > Change from Shape to Pixels > begin drawing one straight line at a time. Upon installing Affinity and running the trial version, I can't for the life of me find an equivalent way of drawing in the program. Please do not recommend PATH tools as I cannot use those comfortably and I cannot undo over 20+ years muscle memory. If the app lacks this capability entirely, then I cannot use it Thank you anyone who can respond Quote
firstdefence Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 You can use the Pixel tool (Y) on the keyboard that will give you what you need. If you can't see it on the left side tool bar it's because it's under a multi-icon, so, if you click on the small black triangle on the brush tool it will display other tools. You can also edit that tool bar by going to View > Customise Tools. From the customise tools window you can drag and drop icons onto the toolbar then save that setup. I'm not sure what pressing Y does exactly? In Photoshop, dragging the line tool shows the active line while doing so but in Affinity I'm not sure what I am supposed to be doing. Cheers Quote
firstdefence Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 pressing Y should bring up the pixel tool but Ive just tried it and it doesn't work. Oops, so you need to have a pixel layer active to be able to use the Y keyboard shortcut. David in Яuislip Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 The Pen tool in Line mode behaves like Photoshop Line tool in Shape layers mode, there is no pixel option in APhoto <ctrl>E is the shortcut for merge down If you start with a Pixel layer, then use the Pen tool to draw a line, then <ctrl>E to merge it to the Pixel layer it's a clunky version of what PS does You can change the shortcut to say \ backslash if more convenient You might like to experiment with the Brush tool using the Stabiliser Best I can think of Quote Microsoft Windows 11 Home, Intel i7-1360P 2.20 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Intel Iris Xe Affinity Photo - 24/05/20, Affinity Publisher - 06/12/20, KTM Superduke - 27/09/10
