etipaced
I've made a mask and need to apply it to a layer so I can size, move and perform color corrections on this masked layer. However, when I create a new layer mask, the image I'm masking disappears, or rather it seems that the mask is applied to the layer and the image and mask don't remain independent of each other. So I'm unable to resize the masked layer. I'm attaching the before and after screen shots to demonstrate the issue I'm seeing in the layer palette. What am I missing? Staff MEB Posted May 23, 2016 Staff Share Posted May 23, 2016 Hi etipaced, Welcome to Affinity Forums :) To manipulate just the mask, click over its thumbnail on the Layers panel so you can manage it independently from the image layer. To manipulate just the image layer without affecting the nested mask, click on the image layer (both layer and mask will be selected) then tick the Lock Children box in the context toolbar (with the Move Tool selected). Let me know if you still have trouble. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
reminous
Hi MEB, This method works in AD, however I can't find this in AP version 1.4.1... Can you help? Reminous
Staff MEB Posted May 24, 2016 Staff Share Posted May 24, 2016 Hi Reminous, It works the same way in AP. Here's a sample file: lock_children.afphoto Manipulaing the image: - open the file, select the first layer with the Move Tool in the Layers panel (both the image and mask will be selected - you can expand the layer to see this), then check Lock Children in the context toolbar - if you drag the selection on canvas only the image will move. The mask (children) stays in place because it's locked. Manipulating the mask: - Now uncheck Lock Children, expand the same layer in the Layers panel and select the mask clicking on its thumbnail - if you drag the selection on canvas only the mask will move, the image stays in place, since you have explicitly selected the mask. Let me know if you still have trouble. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
reminous
Hi MEB, I suspected they should work the same way, however, unless I'm missing it, I can't find the lock children in AF the same way I see in AD. I made screenshots from AD and AP. Am I really missing it? https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0l3G3IVExUWOTh3ODlicmc2dVU/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0l3G3IVExUWR1dDT3pjUEJ5OFU/view?usp=sharing Reminous
Staff MEB Posted May 24, 2016 Staff Share Posted May 24, 2016 Hi Reminous, Your context toolbar in AP is missing... Please check if you have View ▸ Show Context Toolbar checked in the top menus. Here's how it should look: Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
