Affinity Designer 2.5.0 crashes when in fonts menu

My screen recording shows my problem lol. I've restarted my computer, checked to see if there were other updates. I tried changing fonts in already made files and those crash too.

I had the same thing happening in Publisher 2.5. I found the crash was limited to the AR PL UKai Chinese unicode fonts. All other fonts on my system are working. I uninstalled the AR PL UKai fonts and the crashes stopped.

As Mike as indicated below, his app crashes using AR PL UKai - unfortunately I can't see what font is being attempted to load as I can't see the dropdown, but the font visible on the text does look extremely like AR PL UKai - are you able to confirm that this is the font crashing for you? And if so is it a TTC or TTF file? Either way removing this in the meantime should prevent the crash.

Hi Mike!

I've been able to get a copy of AR PL UKai as TTC file from inside a Debian package and can replicate the crash with that! Is that the same font you've been using or was yours individual TTF files?

I have a TTF file with the 4 fonts packaged in it. I don't recall where I got the file. It's likely that it came bundled with software I installed some time ago.

I did also get Publisher to crash later after going through a lot of fonts and looking at the typography panel for each one; it seems likely it was memory related and not font related though. It has not crashed for me since then.

May be useful to try it as the four separate TTF fonts, so I extracted them from the TTC.
AR.PL.UKai.four.extracted.TTFs.zip

NameID 2 is "Book" in all four, and should be "Regular".

I installed and tested on each font separately and it crashed for each one.

I've removed them entirely; I have no need for them so it's not keeping me from getting work done.

Thank you for your help ! I uninstalled the font and it works now.

The issue "Crash when attempting to select certain fonts" (REF: AF-3194) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.5.2.2483".
This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
