Quick question about custom strokes

Recommended Posts

Hi. I own Affinity Designer. However, I'm not a professional artist. I just like playing around with software and I occasionally have to create graphics for personal projects. But, until today, I hadn't used Designer for probably a year.

I have a question about changing and using properties of a stroke with the vector brush:

I created a shape with the vector brush, then I selected it and I changed its properties: brush width, size variance, opacity variance and also the pressure profile (I use a Wacom tablet).

I then made another shape with the vector brush, but that shape didn't have the properties I'd just changed with the previous shape; instead its properties were the default.

So, I'm wondering: how do I create properties of a stroke that will "stick" so that subsequent shapes use those properties?

I know I was able to do it when I last used Designer (again, over a year ago), but I can't seem to figure it out now.

Thanks!

Uuiop, I didn't see the answer to my question in MEB's reply.

All I want to know is how I can create some settings for a vector brush and have those settings stick. I know there  is an easy way to do it because I've done it before. But it was a long time ago and I can't remember how I did it.

I will try to contact Affinity support directly.

Hi skylamar,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

Where did you change the brush properties? In the context toolbar? If so it only apply the changes to the selected stroke/path It doesn't change the brush preset.

To create a new brush preset from an existing one, double-click a brush or click on the small Edit icon on the right of the dropdown in the Brushes panel to enter in the Editing dialog and change some of its properties. They will stick when you draw new shapes. You can also create a duplicate of the shape in the Edit Brush dialog clicking in the Duplicate button (on the bottom) before making changes if you want to keep the original.
