User_Mark
I am immediately new to Affinity and have searched for this answer and can find no help regarding it. When I was using Adobe I would frequently add text to photos and had a huge library of styles I could pull from to apply to text and then tweak if needed. Nearly all of these styles had some texture associated with it - even the gold text for the appearance of fluidity. I will attach picture with a few examples to clarify my meaning. My questions are: 1. Can you add texture to a style (and if so how)? 2. Can you "create" or "save" that style so you don't have to recreate it each time you want that effect (and if so how)? My thanks to anyone who can help me.
Ron P.
Welcome to the forums @User_Mark, With Affinity Photo or Designer the process is about the same. Have your text selected Select the Fill Tool (Gradient or Vector depending on the app) In the Context Toolbar (at the top) open the Fill Type drop-down menu, scroll to the bottom and select Bitmap Navigate to the Texture file you want to use, select it. Now once you have the Texture, color and any other FXs you want to apply: Right Click on the Text and choose Create Style or go to the Edit Menu, scroll to bottom and select the same Create Style. In the Style Panel, (View>Style if you don't see it), your newly created style will be added, and you can Rename it by right-clicking it. User_Mark
Thank you Ron. That was definitely an easier way to apply texture to text than in some videos I watched. I was wondering however, if in using this method there is a way to adjust the texture once it has been applied to the text? In my specific case, I am applying a silk sheet texture which has loose folds in it. So being able to adjust what portion of the texture shows up in the text would be useful. Ron P.
If I understand you correctly, to adjust what portion shows up, you can use Gradient Handles to move the Fill (Texture) around. Is this what you're wanting to do, or am I missing something? 2024-04-16 22-56-18.mp4 Alfred 1 Quote Affinity Photo 2.5..; Affinity Designer 2.5..; Affinity Publisher 2.5..; Affinity2 Beta versions. User_Mark
No you absolutely understood and nailed it - THANK YOU! And making a video to help, I honestly appreciate your help. I had done everything you just demonstrated based upon your clear instructions in your first reply, but for some reason I do not remember seeing the adjustment arms above and to the left of the image or I no doubt would have tried that. Also, something you did in your video prompted a thought which allowed me to figure out how to make a fluid gold for text which was 100% necessary for me to make the switch from Adobe to Affinity. It took me forever to perfect it on Adobe, and now I have a workable start for it in Affinity. I honestly thank you for your help!
