Hi,

Following a discussion on the numbering behavior of Affinity Publisher 2.4.0, I have found a small issue when using it in conjunction with styles.

Here is a MWE:

  • Create a new document in Affinity Publisher 2.4.0 (on MacOS)
  • Create a second page
  • Create a box in each page
  • Type some text in those boxes, say in box 1, "Introduction" and in box 2 "Development"
  • Create a style (I called it Numbered)
  • Apply to both boxes
  • Check that both texts have the Numbered style
  • Then modify the Numbered style by:
    • Setting numbering style to I, II, III (the others lead to the same issue)
    • Setting the numbering to global
    • Naming the list, for instance "Part"
    • Setting Restart numbering to Under the active style [FR: Sous le niveau actif]
  • And… the numbering does not work has expected, instead of leading to "I. Introduction", "II. Development", I have: "I. Introduction", "I. Development".
  • You would have to reapply the style to these texts to have it working correctly.

I guess this is not the expected behavior.

Edit: Added the step that was forgotten (Naming the list, for instance "Part")

It seems here that problems arise when the style is modified (to be numbered) only after being applied to different unlinked text frames.

Following exactly the process above results in the same unexpected behaviour.

Here is the file resulting (historic saved inside):

Numbered list test.afpub

P.S. Closing and reopenening the file seems to correct it…

P.P.S. But if you step back in the Historic of the joined file and redo "Modify the style", you'll see the unexpected behaviour.

I apologise for any approximations in my English. It is not my mother tongue.

I think I might have reported this before but I don't recall for sure. It's likely the same issue as changing the character style of a drop cap inside a paragraph style which has definitely been reported before.

This is easy to work around, you don't have to close the document. Simply change it to No Style and then change it back to your numbered style. You may have to do this for each frame.
