Affinity Designer V2 crash when importing/opening Photoshop(.psd) files on IPad

Recommended Posts

I’ve recently tried to open a Photoshop(.psd) file in Affinity Designer. The file could successfully been opened in Photoshop, but not in Affinity Designer. Also the size of it hasn’t been big(2 MB).

When I pressed open -> open document from the menu and selected a file, It has imported it successfully, but then it said loading file, and the app crashed. I tried both opening and importing document, but neither helped.

I restarted the app, even the device, but still couldn’t open that file. Each time I press on it - the app crashes. I don’t know whether the issue occurs in other Affinity apps, but in Designer it exists for sure.

I ask developers to fix importing/opening psd files in Affinity Designer on IPad.

Thank you, in advance!

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

Can you share the .psd file with us? Or will you need the Serif staff to provide a private upload link?

The desktop Affinity applications don't like that file, either (at least mine, on Windows). They take a lot of CPU and memory and never seem to finish.

So app can’t load such files? I really don’t like that, because I need some UI components for creating designs and the app doesn’t support .fig files as well. I hope, developers will add .fig files support and of course psd files support normally, because file isn’t so huge.

Probably Serif will be able to analyze your file and determine the cause of the problem. Or another Affinity user who owns Photoshop may be able to figure out a workaround for you.

Hi @Romachamp,

The app appears to be having issues parsing the file as a result of the Background shape used for the light scheme. In Photoshop as soon as I deleted the Pink background and saved the file it opened in Designer, I've attached the amended .PSD below.

I'll get the problematic version of the file logged with the developers.

The issue "User file- Importing PSD file fails to load and causes high RAM usage" (REF: AF-2621) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.5.0.2392".
This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Affinity Info Bot to notify us.
