Request: Allow us to set the "Align to:" parameter first before clicking the align type

Recommended Posts

Serif Please alow us to set up the "Align to:" parameter first before clicking the alignment type in the "Alignment dropdown panel" like it was in versions before 1.7 or 1.8.

History of the "Align to:" dropdown in short:

  • This dropdown wasn't always worked like theese days. At least until version 1.7, users could set this parameter first, before choosing and clicking the alignment type, it wasn't greyed out until you click the alignment type first.
  • Then somwhere between 1.7 and 1.8 this was changed and works like that to thees days and we are now in 2.4 when im writing this request.

This bad change that persist to theese days is completely non-intuitive, irritating and not logical.
Because of it we need to deal with thing like:

  •  Users can't set a parameter that affects the action first before initiating the action itself. Ther is no logic in that kind of action order.
  • While performing this cumbersome order of actions, you have to see the effect you don't want first and then correct it after the dropdown is unlocked.
  • When performing multiple alignment operations, it's exhausting to see objects not jumping the way you wanted them to on the first try. This leaves a bad impression.

To sum up. It makes sense for a user to be able to change the "Align to:" parameters from the get go instead of having to perform an alignment action you don't want in order to unlock the dropdown.

Devs please sort it out. I'ts a simple task. You can go back to the initial behaviour from version before 1.7.
