Tab stop leader character

I can use the dot character, dot, dot, dot, but I like dot space dot in a contents list (not a TOC, just my own contents list).

I can't get the optional leader character to do anything. When I click the ellipses thing the character box is greyed out until I click on the (.). The the dot appears in the character box, but if I change it to dot, space, dot, it just reverts to dot.

The optional leader character just doesn't work.

I've just checked this on MacOS and Windows as this is working as expected for me, after changing the tab stop to a leader character if I edit the 'Character' field to add a space after the point and then press Enter to commit, this adds an additional space between each dot on my tabstop, see the recording below for reference. It's important to press enter after amending the field to commit the change.
