ChristinaT Posted February 21, 2024 Posted February 21, 2024 Hey, I am new to Affinity and was directed by Apple support team to reach out to you about your products. I have a iMac mid 2011 model that runs macOS High Sierra. I was curious to know if I buy your products will it be possible for the developers to provide an older version of Affinity Suite that supports macOS High Sierra. I do have an iPad pro that will work with Affinity if this is not possible. I can just work temporarily on the iPad Pro until I get a new computer, but I have two design projects next month so I would like to have something in place by then. Warmly, Christina Quote

Unfortunately, the V1 Affinity apps are no longer for sale & the minimum requirements for the version 2 ones, as you probably know, require Catalina or newer to run. 40 minutes ago, ChristinaT said: I do have an iPad pro that will work with Affinity if this is not possible. If you plan on using Affinity on both your iPad & new computer, & particularly if you want more than one of the Affinity apps on your new computer, you may want to consider buying the Universal licence. ChristinaT Posted February 21, 2024 Author Posted February 21, 2024 No worries. I want to look at my options and see what I should do moving forward for short-term. I have two design projects next month and I'll be with no creative programs in a week. Thanks for letting me know about the Universal licence I will more than likely go for that if I do go with Affinity. I appreciate your honesty and help here. @R C-R Quote

In the short term, I think you could do worse than avail yourself of the 30-day free trial for the Affinity apps. There’s a link for it from the ‘Universal licence’ page to which @R C-R directed you, which I’ve copied to here for your convenience. ChristinaT Posted February 22, 2024 Author Posted February 22, 2024 @Alfred Thanks Alfred I appreciate the help. It certainly doesn't hurt to go for the trial for now until I can get my system going for myself. I will keep that link in my documents. Alfred 1 Quote
Alfred Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 You’re welcome, Christina. Please note that although the trial versions are fully functional, each one is strictly time-limited, with the trial clock starting immediately upon first launch. To maximize the available testing time, try out the apps one after another: the shared file format allows you to open files saved during an earlier trial and work on them during a later trial of another app in the suite. ChristinaT Posted February 22, 2024 Author Posted February 22, 2024 @Alfred Thanks for the advice here. Good to know! Also I have another question you would happen to know if Affinity can open Adobe files. The reason I ask is if I migrate to Affinity most of my work is in adobe .ai, .psd, .indd. I am curious if I can open .psd .ai, .indd files in Affinity and work in them. If that's the case. I don't have to completely redo all my files. Quote
Alfred Posted February 22, 2024 Posted February 22, 2024 The Affinity apps can’t read the proprietary *.ai format, so they can only open AI files that have been saved with the ‘Create PDF Compatible File’ option checked (which means, of course, that anything missing from the PDF stream will be missing from the version of the file that you see in an Affinity app). They can read *.psd files, but they can’t export to that format without rasterizing all text fields. IDML files can be opened in Affinity apps, but not *.indd files.
