Photo 2 crashes when I try to place a photo from iPad photo album but ok placing a file?

Whenever I try to place a photo from the iPad iOS photo album the app closes. I am able to place a photo from a file location. I’m new here so maybe I’m missing something which should be obvious, but it isn’t.

Which version of iPadOS are you running, and on which iPad model? Are you trying to place JPEG photos only, or other types, too?

it seems odd, from lightroom as  raw I can share to and ‘ open in’ affinity photo2

trying to move from lightroom because workflow is terrible having to use laptop then losing ability to edit once copied to laptop, so tried darkroom with affinity photo2  

seem unable to share from darkroom as darkroom won’t share or export raw  only tif jpg and png  which seems farcical.
photos2 doesn’t show up when using iOS share to I’m guessing it doesn’t take jpg. And darkroom seems hopeless as it won’t share raw lol

Ah when HEIF is selected in darkroom affinity becomes available in the share to iOS box. So I’m guessing photos2 won’t place jpgs. 
god. Finding a workflow for photography using iPad is I think impossible. I had hoped this was the answer but I’m better off in Lightroom I think.

That never happens for me. Whenever an iPad misbehaves, it is always worth trying first to close all open apps, then do a Forced Restart (not simply a restart) as per apple’s instructions.

See this article on how to make an IOS Shortcut called “Open in Affinity Photo” that can be used from the share sheet in Apple Photos or Lightroom etc that might help.

 

One thing to be aware of is that iPadOS does not allow “round tripping” to Apple Photos as you can easily do in macOS. So you are restricted to editing a photo then sharing back to Photos the edited version as a new file, unlike macOS which allows you to save back to the original file you opened.
