john-in-cornwall Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 As you can see from the attached screen grabs, the problem doesn't appear to be with Affinity 2.3.0 itself as my laptop (windows 11) still works correctly with all the tool tips visible. But if you look at the screengrab taken of the same image and tool selection on my PC the screen is now missing that last line. I know sometime screen size can be an issue but as you can see I mave reduced the whole screen window to show that there is no element out of sight. Clear, at least to me, the problem is that the tool tip view has somehow been turned off and try as I might I cannot find any option anywhere to reset tooltips. Indeed 'tooltips' as such do not actually feature in the 'Help' menu, so any help would be most gratefully received. Not sure if it might help but this is the details of the machine that is missing tooltips Edition Windows 10 Pro Version 22H2 Installed on 12/11/2020 OS build 19045.3803 Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19053.1000.0 Quote
GarryP Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 Welcome to the forums @john-in-cornwall Tool tips are the little boxes that appear when you hover over a UI item for a little while that tell you what the button (etc.) is for, what you seem to have lost is the Status Bar. I’m not seeing the same problem on Windows 10 so it could be something to do with your particular machine/application set-up. Have you tried using menu “Window → Studio → Reset Studio”? (I think this can sometimes happen if you use “Hide Studio” and then reinstate the bits of the Studio manually rather than toggling “Hide Studio” off again.) Quote
walt.farrell Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 Probably, at some point, you hid the complete interface (e.g., via the Tab key or View > Toggle User Interface) and then restored it piecemeal (View > Show Toolbar, View > Show Context Toolbar, etc.). Unfortunately, View > Toggle User Interface is the only way to hide or show the Status Bar, which is what you're missing. You will need to use View > Toggle User Interface again (possibly twice) to get it back, and then make any other needed adjustments via the View menu if something else is missing. john-in-cornwall Posted December 30, 2023 Author Posted December 30, 2023 Thanks GarryP, but wait.farrell has cracked it, I just went 'View/Toggle UI' x 2 and the missing tool tips were restored. Almost certainly caused by me keying the 'Tab' button at some time. So simple when you know but maddeningly difficult to restore without such helpful guidance. Perhaps a note could be added to the Help menu. Anyway thanks again both, until the next time. HAPPY NEW YEAR. walt.farrell 1 Quote
GarryP Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 Yeah, I think the thing that Walt mentioned was the thing I was thinking about, I just got Studio and UI mixed up. Good to know you’ve managed to get it fixed either way. walt.farrell 1 Quote

This should be a sticky note on page one under FAQ / tips. The status bar guidance is critical to knowing when to use shift (or not) to constrain aspect ration etc. Thanks for sharing this easy fix - the last time I did a full reset and lost presets. Quote
