Total new guy here. I'm trying to use the pen tool in Designer to draw a holly leaf but the pen toll just wants to continue a curve. I want to make a bunch of curves all in the same direction.  I can't figure out how to make multiple concave curves. Example attached. Thanks!

Draw straight lines and bend them with the node tool.

Used the Pen tool (P) to draw the lines and then the Node tool (A) to bend them.

Worked great! Thanks so much!

Glad to hear worked for you. There are many ways to do these things, having a better command of the pen tool would help you to draw on the fly but there are a variety of techniques to get shapes, as Garry has just shown as I type this lol, another method would be boolean subtracting using ellipses.

Another method you could try is to use a combination of the Pencil Tool and Shape Builder Tool – see attached video.

Remember to:

  • use a Stabiliser with the Pencil Tool to make drawing the curves easier;
  • draw the curves so they all overlap at both ends;
  • use the “Clean up” option in the Shape Builder Tool to remove the unwanted curve ends.
