Flexible Shapes behind Text

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

I'm designing a lot of sharepics using Affinity Publisher that require me to place text in front of a shape (a rectangle, sometimes a screwed rectangle = trapezium). When I need to change the text, the shape behind it needs to be changed as well, so that the text perfectly matches with the shape behind. It results in some kind of highlight effect:

Unfortunately, that's a lot of work when it comes to longer texts or multiple sharepics. I found the option to fill the text frame with a color which would in theory create a similar effect. The problem is, that the background shape wouldn't end with the text but with the text frame:

I can use the artistic text tool with the same filling and a bold stroke around it for one-liners:

Now I have a one-liner text whose background will adapt to the size of the text. But that does only work for a rectangular shape in the background. If I need a trapezium as background shape, I have to go back to manually changing every shape behind every line of text:

I would hope that there is an easier way to manage those kind of text-shape designs in the future and would like to suggest a feature where the size of the background  shape can be linked to the size of the actual text.

Thanks a lot in advance for considering :)

Alternatively...

Create your trapezium then Layer > Convert to Text Frame

Add your text & set shape background colour

If adding more or less text just change width of shape to fit

See attached file...

Does the attached video show (more or less) what you want, or have I not understood the requirements properly?

I used a Frame Text layer, with Decorations for each line (paragraph) and then Skewed (Sheared) the whole frame by -20 degrees.

I’ve also attached the document for you to experiment with.

That's really helpful for the rectangles already, thanks a lot!

But the font I have to use is italic and I only received that one font version. I don't even know if there is a regular "straight" version. So scewing/shearing the text frame just makes the font more italic than it already is with the background always lacking behind:
