Stroke alignment of lines and brushes does not align correctly

Recommended Posts

In AD 2.3.x the alignment of some tools does not work as expected.

E.g. lines drawn by pen tool, or Serial Tool. Using e.g. the Heart Tool has no issues.

No such problems in AD 1.x

This has been discussed at length on the forum in the past. A quick search will show up many threads dating back years.

Here is one example from 2018.

Affinity say it is 'by design' that open curves (which would include the spiral) do not have an inside and an outside, so the stroke alignment options make no sense, and can not be implemented.

Many users (myself included) say that the terminology (inside/outside, left/right, etc) is unimportant - we just want to be able to switch which side of the curve that the stroke appears (for reasons such as you demonstrate!)

Indeed it would be really nice to be able to manually offset the stroke from the curve to any distance, just as we can do with baseline adjustment for text... which kind of proves that the maths is already there, and the terminology isn't an actual issue, since we all manage baseline shift without confusion.
