AndyV Posted November 12, 2023 Posted November 12, 2023 This is probably going to end up being a stupid question, at least I hope it is. I'm doing no differently than what I've been doing for multiple files. TIF file/Make a selection/fill with primary color/save/done But now I make a selection and nothing happens. It says "Fill" in the history box but it's not filling. I tried rasterizing the whole file (even though I'm sure it's already a raster file. Nothing I tried cmd-x just to see if I could delete what I have selected, and I could! And adjustment layers work on the selection. So why isn't it filling??? Quote
AndyV Posted November 13, 2023 Author Posted November 13, 2023 I have one layer. Background layer. How can I NOT select it? The ants are marching. And if I haven't selected it, why is cmd-x working or adjustments working? Quote
AndyV Posted November 13, 2023 Author Posted November 13, 2023 Well I solved it but didn't solve it. I tried doing it differently than I usually do. What I usually do is go to "Edit" and scroll down to "Fill with primary color" What I just tried was "New fill layer" and it popped right in (I thought I was going to have to choose the color but oddly it chose the right one.) So I can work again, but I sure don't understand why I can't do my usual step. Quote
Staff NathanC Posted November 13, 2023 Staff Posted November 13, 2023 Hi @AndyV, Your original flood fill selection area workflow should work so long as you have a pixel layer actively selected in the layers panel. I'd suggest checking that your flood fill tool is set to 'Current Layer' or 'Current Layer & Below' so that it does affect the selected pixel layer, and if you're still having trouble send us a screenshot of your full document window with an active selection and the flood fill tool selected. AndyV Posted November 13, 2023 Author Posted November 13, 2023 I've since finished that file and can't retrace my steps. But I had only one layer. I'm not completely sure, but I do seem to remember on the problematic file, I was seeing "Pixel" and not "Background" but again it was the only layer. Just to follow your suggestion, I just opened a new file (I have 20 similar files) and did a selection, and then chose EDIT/Fill with primary color and it worked like it usually does. I have been using Affinity for only about a year now (and previously a 30 year Photoshop user). And maybe worse, I've jumped from Pshop CS2 to Affinity 2. For the most part the transition has been seamless enough, but I keep knocking my head up against things like this that befuddle me. The way Affinity uses layers is different than what I'm used to.
